Reform Lancashire wishes the Jewish community a happy New Year

‍County Councillor Matthew Salter visited St Annes Hebrew Congregation to mark Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which begins at sunset on Friday 11 September.

Rosh Hashanah marks the creation of the world. As Rabbi Bergson explains in the video, its message reaches far beyond the Jewish community.

It comes at a hard time. Antisemitic incidents have risen sharply over the past few years, including here in Lancashire. But the Rabbi's message for the year ahead is one of resilience and hope. He believes the silent majority of people support the Jewish community.

Rabbi Bergson thanked Lancashire Police, Lancashire County Council and the Reform Lancashire group for their support in the run-up to the New Year.

We're proud to stand behind our Jewish neighbours, and we'll keep doing what we can to support them.

We look forward to joining the congregation for their Civic Shabbat in the coming weeks, and to welcoming the community to Lancashire County Council for Hanukkah later in the year.
