Biography

I am a proud Lancastrian who spent the first 60 years of my life in Bolton before moving to Warton in North Lancashire, where I have lived for the past five years. I currently serve as a county councillor for Lancaster Rural East, a picturesque area I am passionate about preserving. The Lune Valley, which occupies a significant part of Lancaster Rural East, is prone to flooding, as are the adjacent roads—improving drainage and defences is of critical importance to me.

With a career spanning over four decades in the NHS as a radiographer, I dedicated 20 of those years to representing my colleagues as a union representative. This experience has given me deep insight into the challenges and opportunities within the healthcare system.

I am a strong advocate for meaningful NHS reform. While recent government plans emphasise prevention, digital transformation, and community-based care, I believe these goals have been pursued for decades with mixed success. For me, listening to patients and valuing frontline perspectives is key to creating a truly responsive and effective health service.

My motivation stems from a lifelong commitment to public service and community well-being. Growing up in Lancashire taught me the value of resilience and solidarity, and my years in the NHS reinforced the importance of fairness and compassion in healthcare. I entered local politics to ensure that rural communities have a strong voice and that essential services—whether healthcare or flood protection—are shaped by the people who rely on them. I believe that progress is only meaningful when it improves lives on the ground, and that principle guides everything I do.
