Community Spirit Shines During ‘Operation Tobermory’ Village Clean-Up

Reform Lancashire County Councillor Ian Duxbury has praised the strong community turnout for Operation Tobermory on Saturday.  A dedicated day of action in Ribchester and the surrounding area focused on boosting civic pride and enhancing the village environment.

A Day of Action Inspired by a Womble

Named after one of the much‑loved Wombles, Operation Tobermory brought together volunteers from across the community for a series of practical, hands‑on activities aimed at improving public spaces.

Residents took part in tasks including cleaning road signs, litter picking, wildflower seeding and weeding in public areas. With one of the year’s few sunny days on their side, volunteers enjoyed a positive and productive event that delivered noticeable improvements throughout the village.

Simple Actions Making a Big Difference

Councillor Duxbury was among those participating, spending part of the day up a ladder cleaning street signs.
“It’s surprising how much of a difference something so simple can make to the overall appearance of a place,” he said. “The weather was kind to us, the atmosphere was fantastic, and everyone agreed that simple actions can have a big impact.”

Community Engagement Through Love Clean Streets

Volunteers also made use of the Love Clean Streets reporting tool to log issues as they worked, demonstrating a commitment not only to identifying local concerns but also to taking an active role in resolving them.

“It shows we’re not just talk.  We’re willing to roll up our sleeves and get involved alongside the communities we represent,” Cllr Duxbury added.

A Call for More Residents to Get Involved

Encouraging others to join future initiatives, Councillor Duxbury said:

“If you really care about your community and want to make a positive difference to where you live, get involved. You’ll meet great people, have fun and really make a difference.”

Reform Lancashire is currently working on a Civic Pride initiative which will go before Cabinet in April.
