British pubs are more than just places to grab a drink; they’re cornerstones of our communities, parts of our history, and vital hubs of local life. But they’re disappearing at an alarming rate.
In recent decades, the number of pubs has plummeted from 69,000 to just 45,000 by the end of 2024. And if nothing changes, forecasts suggest that by 2040 the UK could have as few as 10,000 pubs left. That’s a future without the locals, where friendships are forged, clubs meet, celebrations happen, and neighbours come together.
Rising taxes, soaring VAT, and mounting operational costs are pushing thousands of pubs to the brink. While the crisis has grown, successive governments both Conservative and Labour have failed to step in with meaningful support.
Communities are losing their last remaining public spaces because of policies that simply don’t work for pubs and the wider hospitality industry.

The Save Our Pubs campaign, led by Reform UK, is calling for urgent action to protect these vital local institutions.
Reform UK’s five-point plan aims to ease the pressure on publicans and help pubs thrive again:
This plan is designed to back hard-working publicans, support local economies, and keep pubs at the heart of British community life.
If you believe pubs are worth saving, now is the time to act. Every signature sends a clear message: our pubs matter, and we’re not willing to watch them disappear.
